Our Top Five Resources for March

Each month we publish several newsletters full of digital learning, funding, professional growth, social media, and STEM resources. Below are the resources from our newsletters that educators turned to the most in the month of March.
1. Shakespeare’s Globe 360 App
With Shakespeare’s Globe 360, students can step inside the famous Globe Theatre in England and discover how it was constructed, see what it would have looked like years ago, and learn about theater life in that time. The technology in the app uses the built-in camera in the iPhone or iPad. Pointing it at a marker prompts the Globe Theatre to appear on the screen. Students can move around the virtual theater, zoom in and out, reveal the oak frame, and head inside, where they will be able to explore the theater as 360-degree images.
2. Strategies for Recess in Schools
SHAPE (Society of Health and Physical Educators) America and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) developed new guidelines, in two documents, that offer educators a list of 19 evidence-based strategies and a template to show them what a good recess policy looks like.
3. Design-based Lessons
Cooper Hewitt’s Educator Resource Center features more than 400 design-based lessons written by educators from all disciplines. In addition to the K-12 lessons, the website offers best practices, videos, and other design resources that allow educators to be fully equipped to implement design education across any subject, year after year.
4. Tinkering Studio
The Tinkering Studio shares projects, activities, and developing ideas following an “open source” model. The site offers free guides to download and use to help students get started with tinkering. One free activity invites students to adorn their bodies with electrifyingly awesome jewelry that they build themselves. Another invites them to turn old plastic bags into beautiful new fabrics that they can use to make a variety of fashionable items.
5. Design Challenge Learning Lessons
Design Challenge Learning is a combination of project-based learning, design thinking, and the engineering design process that develops the innovator’s mindset through iteration. The lessons on The Tech of Innovation’s website help teachers lead students through science and engineering challenges. They also make engaging and effective team-building activities for groups of teachers.
