The Global Read-Aloud: One Book to Connect the World

Global collaboration shows students that they are part of something bigger than themselves. The Global Read Aloud (GRA) project, starting October 5 and running through mid-November, encourages students worldwide to connect through shared reading experiences. The initiative aims to foster empathy and understanding among students.

Teachers are invited to participate in The Global Read Aloud. Simply choose from the list of books to read to your class and partner with one or more classrooms around the world. Suggested activities include daily clues about the location of the partner class, virtual school tours, letter exchanges, and collaborative discussions.

If you’re looking for a partner classroom, you can visit the GRA Facebook group or use the spreadsheet at the bottom of the booklist page. You decide how much time you would like to dedicate and how involved you would like to be. You may choose to connect with just one class or partner with many. The scope and depth of the project is up to you. While many teachers use platforms such as Skype, Twitter, Padlet, and Flipgrid for collaborating, you can choose the tools that work best for you and your students.

Participation in The Global Read Aloud is free, and you don’t need to sign up. Just follow the blog or join the main Facebook group to receive the information being shared. You don’t have to be on Facebook to take part in the project, but it is the main place for you to share ideas and make connections.
