The Baseball Hall of Fame Museum offers 15 baseball-themed curriculum components that provide interactive and meaningful learning engagement for students in grades 3–12. The curriculum features all the major subject areas, including science, technology, engineering, math, social studies, character education, the arts and humanities.
Educator scan download thematic lessons at no cost to help teach a variety of subjects using baseball as a catalyst. For example, in the “Statistics: Batter Up” unit, students examine how everyday mathematical concepts, such as addition, subtraction, fractions, and decimals, apply to baseball and the real world. They also analyze baseball statistics and interpret data in terms of fundamental mathematical operations. In the “Geometry: Circling the Bases” unit, students examine how everyday geometric concepts, such as circumference, area, perimeter, and diameter, apply to baseball and the real world. They also analyze characteristics of the baseball playing field and interpret data in terms of fundamental geometric operations.
In addition to these (and other) math units, teachers will find learning experiences related to physical and health science (Science); leadership and communication arts (Character Education & Arts); women’s history, civil rights, cultural diversity, and geography (Social Studies), and more.
Each lesson includes instructions, activity suggestions, and key vocabulary with definitions that teachers can adapt to supplement their curriculum or to enrich a virtual field trip to the museum.
