Step into the World of Youth with ADHD, Dyslexia, and Dyscalculia

The nonprofit Understood has launched a digital platform, Through My Eyes, to help teachers and parents understand what it is like to grow up with a learning disability. The platform features personal stories and real-life simulations to dispel misconceptions and create empathy.

Accessible in English and Spanish, this free immersive platform offers a firsthand look at the challenges students with ADHD, dyslexia, and dyscalculia face every day. Real-life simulations and personal stories let users see through the eyes of real children and deepen understanding of the everyday challenges these children face.

Resources for educators include lesson plans, professional development, and practical tools to create a more inclusive classroom. Parents are offered tips for talking with their child and acting with empathy. Youth with learning challenges can tap interactive quizzes and games to learn about themselves and support their classmates.

In addition, anyone with a mobile or desktop device can access the free “Understood Assistant,” an AI expert on learning differences. The AI assistant answers questions using information from Understood’s expert-vetted library of content and resources. A panel of experts, including licensed psychologists, regularly evaluates responses to make sure they are accurate, relevant, and helpful. The Understood Assistant is accessible in English and Spanish.
