The nonprofit Prejudice Unfolded is dedicated to educating and combating various forms of prejudice and discrimination. The organization’s mission is to raise awareness about the roots, causes, and impact of prejudice on individuals and communities, fostering understanding and tolerance among diverse groups.
The organization’s website highlights the importance of empathy and dialogue in addressing biases and misconceptions that perpetuate discrimination. The goal is to encourage critical thinking and personal reflection, enabling children and willing adults to confront their own biases and cultivate respectful relationships within their communities.
Prejudice Unfolded uses various methods to achieve its objectives, including educational webinars, community workshops, and collaborations with schools and local organizations. The organization emphasizes the importance of engaging dialogues and shared experiences, which can foster an environment of change and acceptance. By providing resources for educators, parents, and community leaders, the website seeks to be a comprehensive tool for the promotion of understanding and respect.
Prejudice Unfolded is pursuing two major efforts through education:
- Creating a Clearing House Index for Social–Emotional Learning, called CHISEL, which allows users to see all available SEL Information from all SEL providers by category.
- Developing a Multimedia Video Gaming Platform for K–12, through a series of focus groups with teachers, administrators, researchers, and universities, which will complement the social–emotional learning initiatives currently under way in more than 100,000 K–12 schools in the US. The major goals are to provide courseware that caters to the various learning levels within each K–12 level; to provide teachers with methods and tools to oversee, coach, and record observations efficiently; and to design learning experiences that will be stimulating for students.
