Imagine the excitement on your students’ faces when a published children’s book creator walks into the classroom, ready to share the magic of storytelling, the joy of books, and the spark of creativity. That’s what your school could experience with the SCBWI Amber Brown Grant.
Every year the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI) awards one school this special opportunity. In 2025, SCBWI is focusing on picture books. The winning schools will receive an in-person visit from a published children’s book author–illustrator and $250 worth of books donated to the school library.
The Amber Brown Grant was created to honor the late, beloved author Paula Danziger, whose Amber Brown series has inspired readers for decades. In her spirit, the grant celebrates schools that are committed to fostering a love of reading and writing in their students.
Applying for the grant is simple. Whether your school is large or small, urban or rural, public or private, all are welcome to enter. Simply tell about your school and its experience with author–illustrator visits.
Submit your school’s entry by October 31, 2025, for a chance to give your students a direct connection to the creative process and inspire them to see themselves as storytellers, readers, and dreamers.
