Program Fueling the Mathematical Talents of Extraordinary Students

Math fuels innovation and progress. It enables us to expand the frontiers of science and technology and to solve the world’s biggest challenges. More children from more communities have the potential to be a part of that progress, but many don’t receive the support they need to develop their mathematical talent. National Math Stars is changing that.

A ten-year, fully funded program, National Math Stars supports and inspires extraordinary students’ love of mathematics from as early as second grade through the end of high school. Over the ten years, the organization invests more than $100,000 in support and resources in each Star to create a pathway for them to reach the frontiers of mathematics, science, and technology. The program includes math mentorship, family advising, community gatherings, and funding.

National Math Stars is now accepting applications for the 2025 cohort. Applications are available in English and Spanish.

The first stage of the application includes an information form with short answers about the student’s interest in the program, demographic information, and existing test scores (if available). Only applications received by June 15, 2025, will be considered for the 2025 cohort. In late June, all eligible applicants will be asked to complete an online problem-solving assessment that takes approximately one to two hours. In mid-July, finalists will be invited to take a (fully funded) proctored examination and complete both student and parent interviews via videoconference. All applicants will be notified in mid-August, and the 2025 cohort of Stars will be announced at that time.

Educators are invited to work with National Math Stars to identify potential Stars at their school or in their district. There is no cost to apply to National Math Stars and no cost to participate for those admitted to the program.
