Online Safety Keys for Everyday Life

Online safety skills give us the power to navigate online spaces confidently and take ownership of our digital lives. All citizens of the digital world need to know how to be responsible members, so what does this mean for students?

Norton and Discovery Education encourage cybersmart students to embrace the possibilities and the responsibilities of digital citizenship with interactive learning resources created through the My Digital Life program.

The My Digital Life Animated Topic Series highlights the importance of responsible decision-making in students’ online lives. Irresponsible Behaviors: Navigating the Do’s & Don’ts of Life Online teaches students how to identify common types of irresponsible online behaviors. Using the companion Educator Guide, Class Activity, and Ready-to-Use Activity, teachers can bring to life the topics covered in the series and explore ways their students can apply digital citizenship best practices to real-life situations.

The My Digital Life Masterclass Video shares best practices for teaching students how to be safe online and how to be good digital citizens. The companion Masterclass Educator Guide features content to inspire students to explore their world and connect with others using the fundamentals of digital citizenship and online safety. A Masterclass Activity lets teachers step into real primary and secondary school classrooms to see these resources in action.

An engaging Self-Paced Module shares tips for improving students’ digital safety. To create a safe space online for everyone, the Digital Safety module emphasizes the importance of guarding personal information, reporting cyberbullying, and maintaining a responsible digital footprint. Teachers can use the Digital Safety video with the other My Digital Life resources. Two ready-to-use Activities accompany the video: “Oversharing” is a wellness activity for children in grades 3–5 to learn about making good choices when sharing thoughts and ideas in person and online. “Misinformation”is a wellness activity for students in grades 6–8 to learn about the importance of checking facts, using reliable sources, and thinking critically before sharing. The Self-Paced Module Educator Guide suggests ways students can explore what it means to be inclusive, informed, engaged, balanced, and alert when trying to be a responsible digital citizen. Teachers can use this guide with the corresponding Self-Paced Module.
