New Medium for Math and Science Learning

Prisms is the world’s first spatial learning platform in which students learn core math, science, and everything else through abstracting up from physical human experiences.

Prisms targets bottleneck concepts in grades 7–11. For example, in an algebra lesson on linear regression, students in middle school and high school join a team of urban planners in a national park to determine when the amount of waste produced by a city’s growing population will overwhelm its existing waste management capabilities.

Prisms’ Assistive Agent in VR supports students during critical moments of struggle with responsive, multimodal, spatialized guidance that enables them to use the tools and achieve success with every task.

VR Synthesis Activities help students synthesize their learnings from the VR experiences immediately after they come out of the headset with clear ties to standards-based vocabulary, notation, and procedures. Pencil/Paper Transfer Activities provide opportunities for students to apply their learning to new scenarios and contexts to ensure they have mastered the concepts and skills.

After they have learned the concepts and skills in the learning modules, students can use the kinesthetic skill building modules to gain speed and efficiency with the procedures.

All modules in Prisms Curriculum Library are available to translate into six languages: Spanish, Haitian Creole, Portuguese, Vietnamese, Mandarin, and Russian. The translations can be used for subtitle text, text display and task station interfaces, voiceover—or all three.

A live Teacher Dashboard lets teachers monitor student learning and provide feedback in real time. Teachers can see exactly what individual students are seeing through the Prisms casting feature, or they can view an event timeline that displays everything each student has done until that point, informing questioning and conferencing strategies.

A full day of professional development is available for teachers to understand how the Prisms idea works. They will learn the lesson cycle, get supporting curriculum materials, discover the Teacher Dashboard, and more. Support is then ongoing with round-the-clock access to coaches and tech support for teachers.

Prisms has been teacher-led from its inception. Read about the journey of Prisms founder Anurupa Ganguly, an MIT-trained engineer turned teacher and district leader, and her path to building the Prisms movement.
