Walkabouts are web-based lessons for preK–grade 2 students that integrate movement with language arts, math, and reading content. The Walkabouts platform also includes Walksheets, worksheets with a movement component, for preK–grade 5 students. Evidence-based Walkabouts and Walksheets are correlated to state and national standards, including NAEYC and Head Start standards.
Walkabouts were developed by Dr. Julian Reed, a leading researcher exploring the relationship between issues such as obesity, cognition, and academic achievement. The Walkabouts platform is based on Dr. Reed’s findings and years of research about the connections between movement and learning. The website hosts sample Walkabouts for K–2. In a recent survey, preK–grade 2 teachers reported that Walkabouts help build students’ confidence, improve self-awareness, and enhance self-control.
