The National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) is one of the largest student-governed organizations based in the United States. Founded in 1975, NSBE supports and promotes the aspirations of collegiate and precollegiate students and technical professionals in engineering and technology. The organization’s mission is “to increase the number of culturally responsible Black engineers who excel academically, succeed professionally, and positively impact the community.”
NSBE provides a variety of scholarships to members through the NSBE and Corporate Scholarship Programs. Individual scholarships range from $500 to $5,000 per year. Scholarships promote academic achievement, yet not all have a GPA requirement. A list of scholarships available for application is displayed on the NSBE website.
Plus: The RaiseMe platform helps students in grades 9–12 prepare for college by earning RaiseMe Micro-Scholarships for their academic, extracurricular, and leadership achievements. With more than 330 colleges and universities on its platform, RaiseMe also helps students find the college that is the best fit for them. Students can register under NSBE and build their profiles as early as eighth grade. Students can also access the platform on an iOS mobile device, using the app developed by Raise Labs, Inc.
