Learning Undefeated drives equity in STEM through deep-impact learning experiences for students from underresourced communities. Through innovative and experiential education programs for K–12, the organization aims to build the workforce that will drive the innovation economy and bridge school, community, health, and business.
Mobile STEM education is part of Learning Undefeated’s strategy to increase student interest in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) careers. Mobile laboratories (or mobile labs, for short) bring scientific tools and techniques right to the school parking lot, allowing learners access to experiences far beyond what many schools can provide.
Learning Undefeated’s Mobile eXploration Lab (MXLab) is the country’s largest, most advanced mobile laboratory. The MXLab has been custom designed to expand new technology and laboratory science experiences and pique students’ interests in STEM learning and careers. Built in a double-expandable trailer, the flexible space accommodates classes of up to 40 students, working in groups. The free MXlab curriculum consists of more than 50 activities ranging from biotechnology and chemistry to engineering, physics, and advanced technologies, such as AI and cybersecurity.
Learning Undefeated’s newest concept in mobile STEM education, Drop Anywhere Labs, are custom-outfitted STEM learning spaces built from shipping containers. These labs offer a blend of career and skills education, providing flexible in-classroom resources that serve up to four classes simultaneously. Each Drop Anywhere Lab features a menu of custom-designed Breakout Box games on topics such as life sciences and environmental engineering. Breakout Box experiences range from 20 to 30 minutes and are designed to integrate easily into the school day.
The Explorer Lab is an entirely new way for middle school students to discover concepts of engineering design. The Explorer Lab is a shared immersive learning experience that combines movie-quality video, special effects, and hands-on educational gaming. Onboard the lab, students experience a 360-degree video trip around the Solar System and then use a custom-built tablet game to explore concepts of engineering design.
Currently being used for disaster relief efforts, the MdBioLab, Learning Undefeated’s original mobile laboratory, is a 45-foot trailer custom built to house a professional-grade wet lab. This experiential learning space can accommodate classes of up to 32 students, working in pairs conducting experiments with authentic laboratory equipment and reagents.
Learning Undefeated’s curriculum includes laboratory activities appropriate for a variety of classes, ranging from basic biology and chemistry to AP biology, physics, technology, and environmental science. All activities are focused on problem-based learning with real-world applications that align with Next Generation Science Standards.
Anywhere Labs digital learning lesson bundles provide turnkey experiences for teachers to use in digital classrooms. Program components include real-time, mobile-friendly access to standards-aligned laboratory investigations, multimedia STEM resources, collaborative assignment tools, and interactive assessments.
