Building a Classroom Culture for Inquiry in Social Studies

“Source Material” is a joint thought-leadership webinar series produced by inquirED and National Council for the Social Studies. Open to all educators, the series explores the instructional shifts, classroom routines, and leadership methods required to cultivate robust, inquiry-based social studies learning.

The lineup of scheduled sessions and resource topics extending into 2027 includes the following:

  • Episode 1 (September 17, 2026): By Design, Not By Accident will focus on building inquiry culture and mutual trust.
  • Episode 2 (November 12, 2026): Three Moves That Change the Room will address inquiry-based learning for multilingual learners.
  • Episode 3 (February 4, 2027): A Different Kind of Invitation will explore re-engaging reluctant learners through motivation.
  • Episode 4 (March 4, 2027): Reading the Room will cover analyzing student work to drive instruction.

Each episode will bring a classroom teacher, a coach, and a researcher or school leader into one conversation. Teachers will leave with practical classroom moves, and leaders will leave with a way to support that work across a district.

The webinars will begin at 4:45 p.m. (ET) / 3:45 p.m. (CT) / 1:45 p.m. (PT). Register to join live. If you can’t make it, a recording and summary blog post will be sent to you.
