App That Makes Creative Thinking a Daily Habit in Your Classroom

Think you don’t have time for creativity in your classroom? The Creative Thinking Card Deck makes creativity as quick as a tap. This free app from The Institute for Arts Integration and STEAM provides K–12 teachers with more than 50 ready-to-use warmups, strategies, thinking routines, and creativity prompts.

Each set of cards is grouped by time estimate and artform. With options of 3 to 5 minutes, 10 to 15 minutes, or 15 to 45 minutes, there’s a prompt or idea to use in any lesson. Teachers can also select the arts area they want to connect; visual art, music, theater, and movement strategies are all included.

Each warmup, strategy, or creative thinking routine offers a set of steps to make using the activity as simple as possible. Teachers also have the option to Bookmark their favorites so they can easily go back to the ones their students enjoy the most.

Also included are video demonstrations of creative techniques, as well as access to a student-friendly podcast.

The app is available to download on iOS and Android devices.

Plus: The Institute for Arts Integration and STEAM offers hundreds of free arts integration and lesson ideas to jumpstart your creative classroom. These are bite-sized versions of the institute’s fully developed lesson plans. Check out, for example, “I’ve Got Rhythm” (Music and Art) for kindergarten and grade 1, “STEAM Up Creative Thinking with Art Bots” (Science and Art) for grades 3–5, “Predicates and Cadences” (English Language Arts and Music) for grades 4 and 5, “Proportionate People” (Math and Art) for grades 6–8, and “Historical Figures Mashup” (English Language Arts and Media Arts) for grades 9 and 10.
