AI Math Coach is a planning, assessment, and instructional support tool developed by All Learners Network (ALN) for anyone involved in teaching K–5 mathematics. The tool serves as an instructional coach, answering questions about curriculum, improving lesson plans, and supporting students.
Built on ALN’s research-based approach to mathematics instruction, AI Math Coach includes two artificial intelligence assistants, each designed for specific instructional needs.
The Pedagogy Assistant supports K–5 teachers in improving their mathematics instruction with a focus on student-centered learning approaches. This assistant helps teachers develop strategies that encourage students to construct their own understanding of mathematical concepts rather than having concepts explained to them.
Beyond pedagogical support, the Pedagogy Assistant strengthens teachers’ own mathematical content knowledge, helping them deepen their understanding of fundamental mathematical concepts to better support their students. Teachers can ask the Pedagogy Assistant questions such as How can I help my second graders develop a deeper understanding of place value without just telling them the rules? Or What are some engaging activities to help students understand fractions as parts of a whole?
The Intervention Assistant helps teachers create personalized math intervention plans based on the specific mathematical concepts a student is struggling with. The assistant identifies the student’s strengths and next steps, analyzes the student’s work samples to identify misconceptions, determines appropriate benchmarks, and selects targeted resources such as tasks, problem solvers, games, and journal prompts.
This assistant can also develop 30-minute group intervention plans that include daily structured activities for small groups, resources aligned to specific benchmarks, launch activities with main tasks and closure components, and assessment strategies to monitor progress. The Intervention Assistant searches through existing All Learners Network (ALN) and All Learners Online (ALO) resources to build these plans, ensuring teachers have access to high-quality, research-based materials that address specific learning needs.
Teachers can also ask the Intervention Assistant questions—for example: One of my first-grade students is having trouble with addition within 20. I have 15-minute sessions with the student three times a week. Can you create an intervention plan?
