A Visit to America’s Front Yard

The National Mall is the iconic space that tells the story of our nation’s founding—but more than that, it is America’s Civic Stage, the backdrop for pivotal moments in our nation where we come together to share in our profound democratic ideals.

The Trust for the National Mall invites students to immerse themselves in storytelling and some of the little-known history behind this treasured American space. They can take a virtual stroll through America’s Front Yard and view the monuments and memorials from anywhere.

In 2026 the Trust for the National Mall and the National Park Service partnered to create the National Mall Gateway, a first-of-its-kind web platform that connects visitors to the history and democratic ideals memorialized on the National Mall. Immersive virtual tours, standards-based lessons and activities, and digital tools are all available for free.

Teachers can sign up on the National Mall Gateway to unlock the full collection of educational activities for all ages. In addition, a complimentary interactive classroom map visualizes the key national monuments, the Constitution Gardens, and the Dwight D. Eisenhower Memorial.

With interactive maps, 360-degree tours, multimedia storytelling, and tools designed specifically for teachers, the Gateway helps transform the National Mall into a dynamic living history and civics classroom.
